Nautiloids are an ancient and mysterious
race. They inhabit the Outer Abyss, but
sometimes travel to the Inner Abyss. Like their
prehistoric ancestors they resemble shelled
squids. The shells may be variously coloured,
patterned and sculptured, straight or curved. It is
not clear whether these variations represent
different races or different social castes.
Nautiloids are 30% likely to carry one or more
weapons and 10% likely to possess a magickal
item, which they shall use if the need arises.
Occasionally a Nautiloid wizard will be
encountered (any sphere, but especially Water
Elemental). Nautiloids may occur singly or in
groups of up to a hundred. Some Nautiloids
possess patterns of variously coloured
luminescent organs that can be opened or
closed at will. Nautiloids communicate by
high-pitched squeals and buzzes, or by flashing
their luminescent organs, and also by telepathy.
Little is known about the lairs of these creatures;
are they nomadic or do they build great cities in
the Abyss?
